In today’s day and age with oil and electricity prices skyrocketing, there are many things that you can do to help cut your costs down and in many cases help the environment also.
We get many calls per week from commercial, residential, and industrial customers asking us for ways of saving electricity. Not only can you save money by following the suggestions below but many of the items listed below can gain you rebate money in some instances. Most rebate money is dedicated toward commercial and industrial applications, however, many residential customers have found some rebates also.
"Going Green” Want to save Energy & Money? Here are some ways:
- Lighting Control Systems/ Dimmers: Not only by replacing your existing switches with dimmers will save you money on energy use but also has proved to increase the life of your light bulbs by much more than you’d think. It is said that if a dimmer is at it’s highest setting, you are still saving 5% of your electricity than that of a normal on/off switch. The other beauty of dimmers is that they can create the perfect ambiance throughout your house. No more walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night with bright lights!
- The below chart is the energy saved when you dim the lights certain percentages. Also, check out the cool link to see actual money savings from dimmers: Lutron Dimmer Energy Savings Calculator
- Occupency Sensors: Many people have us install occupancy sensors in the place of the switch in bathrooms, cellars, garages, and even hallways. Large warehouses and buildings also can put occupency sensors on ceiling fixtures to only come on when workers are in the area. This saves a tremendous amount of electricity.
- Motion Scensors: We install motion lights on the outside of buildings and houses all the time. Not only does it help with security and scaring off intruders, but it also saves energy because they only come on when they are needed—when there is movement that triggers the motion scensor to turn the lights on.
- Photo Cells: Have an outside perimeter light that you keep on in the dark for security purposes but forget to shut it off during the day? Add a photo cell or even a time clock to shut it on and off automatically.
- Ceiling Paddle Fan: You’d be surprised how many of our customers claim to save money on their heating & cooling bills because of better circulation of the air in their house/ building. Not only can you save some of your heat and cool air but in today’s tighter built buildings, paddle fans are one way of circulating the air.
- Hot Water Instant Heat: Ask us about the instant hot water heaters we’ve wired for past customers. Check out Stiebel Eltron’s System which is produced in West Hatfield, MA & Germany.
- Bathroom Vent Fans: We can change out your vent fans to a more efficient unit and also add a great looking timer to control it.
- Whole House Fans and Energy Recovery Ventalation systems: With today’s tighter built buildings, many types of venting systems could benefit your homes and buildings.
- Solar Panels: We have taken many courses in the recent years and are now installing building solar systems. Technology has come a long way since the 80’s when it seemed that solar panels were getting to be popular! There are tremendous rebates for installing solar panels on your buildings and we’d be happy to discuss your project with you!
