NEW! Going Green Program     Home Inspection & Preventive Maintenance Program
To become a Journeyman electrician, you currently must work 8,000 hours/4 years under the supervision of a licensed electrician. You must have 600 classroom hours. Once you meet the criteria you will need to take a test and upon completion, you will be entitled to become a journeyman electrician. Presently, there are rumors of the apprenticeship program increasing to 10,000-12,000 hours.

To become a Master Electrician, you must work for a minimum of 1 year as a Journeyman, complete a 150 hour Master's Course (which is geared toward business & law, electrical code, calculations, OSHA rules, etc.) and you must complete and pass a 4 hour test.

Once licensed, every 3 years you will need to go to a 15 hour code update class. You will also need to have 6 hours of additional instruction related to the electrical field.
